Digul River Shield-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
Here is a fine older Awyu culture shield from the Digul River area of southern New Guinea. Has the classic double spiral design and a stem projecting from the top. The reverse is nicely painted with white lines. The handle shows good age and wear. The shield comes from a Denver private collection, is 46 ¾” (118.6 cm) in height, dates to the mid 20th century.
