Western Highlands Shield-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
Here is a fine old Western Highlands New Guinea shield. It has an abstract figurative design pecked out with holes like they do in the Wahgi Valley. There are numerous arrow holes from past battles and the reverse shows a patina with serious age and field use. The shield has been in storage in Phoenix and is on the market here for the first time in nearly 50 years. It stands 65 ¼” (165.6 cm) in height, dates to the early/mid 20th century.
