Ramu River Shields-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
With their bold colors and strong graphics, it is no wonder these two Ramu River shields were favorites of Ben Birillo, the famed artist, advertising executive and collector of Pop Art. Both shields show considerable age and field use with at least one arrow still embedded in the left example. They date to the 1920/30s, left is 46 ¼” (117.4 cm) and right is 48” (123 cm) in height.
