Chimbu Shield-New Guinea Highlands-Oceanic Tribal Art
This large and striking shield comes from Simbu (Chimbu) Province in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It has a brilliant design and good signs of age and use on the reverse. The bold yellow pigments are thick and in layers. The piece dates to the early/mid 20th century, is 66 ½” (169 cm) in height, comes from the Marc Franklin Collection.
