Western Australian Wunda Shield-Aboriginal Art-Oceanic Art
I love the combination of cool sophistication with roughhewn natural materials. The front of this classic Western Australian Wunda shield has precise parallel zigzag grooves painted red and white while the backside has deep vertical furrows and a well-worn handle rising like a bridge over the field below. The shield is carved from a hardwood, is quite thin but strong and sturdy. It dates to the early 20th century, is 30 ¾” (78.1 cm) in height.
