New Britain Shell Currency-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
Here is fine gold lip kina shell currency from New Britain. Locally these are called Euk. This one is polished on the backside and a cutout projection on the side with strings of shell attachments. The piece comes from the noted currency collector Charles Opitz. It dates to the early 20th century, stands 17 ½” (44.5 cm) in height as mounted.
