Four South Pacific Fish hooks-Oceanic Art
Old South Pacific fish hooks have a jewel-like quality to them. They are small, delicate with fine workmanship and an opalescence from the shell and bone material. Here are four fine examples. The left comes from the Society Islands, the middle two are Micronesian from the Marshall Islands and the right is from the Solomon Islands. These date to the early 20th century or before, range in size from 3 1/8” (7.9 cm) to 3 ¾” (9.6 cm) in length.
