Tahitian Stone Pounder-Penu-Polynesian Art-Oceanic Art
Here is an elegant Tahitian basalt stone pounder, Penu. As with all top examples it was a wide base that gracefully tapers up to a gently curved horizontal handle. The pounder exhibits excellent age and use with a darker patinaed surface. The piece comes from the estate of Lynda Cunningham, dates to the 18th/early 19th century, is 6” (15.1 cm) in height.
