Aboriginal Churinga-Central Desert Area-Aboriginal Art-Oceanic Art
Here is a wonderful Central Desert Australia wooden churinga. The concentric circle and oval designs are especially fine as well as the thick red ochre pigments. Churinga were the most sacred of aboriginal artifacts and were used in male initiation and the designs related histories and specific points in the landscape. This one dates to the early 20th century or before, is 17 1/8” (43.4 cm) in height.
