Fijian Neckrest-Polynesian Art-Oceanic Art
This is a rare type of Fijian neckrest with a very elongated neck support. Locally these are called “kali.” This one comes from the DuPont family, dates to the early/mid 19th century, is 28-5/8” (72.6 cm) in length. The piece was acquired from the New York dealer/collector Rick Gallagher in 2019. He had purchased it at a Connecticut auction that post sale was told “confidentially” that the neckrest and a couple other old South Pacific items were from the DuPont Collection.
