Tami Island Tago Mask-Huon Gulf-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
I was lucky to acquire this one earlier this month from a collection in Phoenix where it has sat in a warehouse for almost 50 years. It is a very nice Tami Island tago mask made from coconut fiber, cane, cassowary feathers and trade cloth. One small detail to notice is the great aged dark brown patina on the rattan ears. This mask dates to the early/mid 20th century, stands 32” (81.3 cm) in height.
