Maori Taiaha Quarterstaff Club-Polynesian Weapon-Oceanic Tribal Art
As I mentioned in my 2020 Oceanic Art Market Report I think the Maori Taiaha quarterstaffs are wonderful and often affordable pieces of Polynesian art. The top is excellently carved with curvilinear designs and are definitively figurative with paua shell eyes and the long pointed tip as an aggressive extended tongue when viewed upside down. This one dates to the mid 19th century, is 47 ¼” (122.3 cm) in height.
