Fijian Kinikini War Club-Polynesian Weapon-Oceanic Art
This is an excellent mid 19th century Fijian kinikini war club with extensive carved design including crescents and circles. This one has a well carved grip, a beautiful glossy dark brown patina and was acquired by the previous owner from Galerie Flak in 2004. As Fergus Clunie states in his authoritative Fijian Weapons & Warfare that including being used as a weapon “the Kinikini was also carried by priests and used in some religious ceremonies” p. 56. The present example is 43 ¼” (109.6 cm) in height.
